Five Gurkha and Nepalese Communities across the UK, are buying a collection of paintings of the first two HMS Ghurka’s and the three HMS Gurkha’s Warships, which served bravely with the Royal Navy from 1888 until 1984. The paintings of the two HMS Ghurka’s and three HMS Gurkha’s, will be presented to the Nepali Ambassador in London later this year, as part of the 1914 -1918 closing celebrations in London and it is hoped that they will be placed on permanent display either in the London Embassy or in the Nepali Parliament Buildings, to represent the great friendship and loyalty between the Peoples of Nepal and the United Kingdom over the last 200 years. They are hoping a VVIP and members of the Ships Company of three HMS Gurkha’s (F20, G63 & F122), plus the artist to the Nepali Embassy for the presentation.
Moreover, the communities will be requesting the assistance of HRH the Princess Royal, Colonel in Chief of the Queen’s Gurkha Signal’s Regiment and Queen’s Own Gurkha Logistic Regiment and Commodore in Chief of Portsmouth, along with the Navy Board to petition the Government to name one the new Type 31 Frigates to be named HMS Gurkha. They intend to gather as many signatures as possible in their local areas to aid their case, details to follow. The communities, who have many serving personnel, retired Gurkha Veterans and children of veterans now serving strongly believe there should be another HMS Gurkha.
The Communities would welcome any help and assistance in contacting or tracing any living members of the Ships Companies of HMS Gurkha F20, or HMS Gurkha G63 and/or HMS Gurkha F122, or especially from the HMS Gurkha Association. They would very much like to meet up with former Royal Naval Personnel, who served on any of these HMS Gurkha’s and are still living, or their family members.
