ARCTIC AND ATLANTIC CONVOY VETERAN CELEBRATES 100TH BIRTHDAY

George Notley, Salisbury Royal Naval Associations oldest member, recently celebrated his 100th birthday. 

  Marking the occasion with his fellow shipmates from the Salisbury Royal Naval Association (RNA), George received a card from the King and Queen, the First Sea was presented with a beautiful cake and a bottle of Pussers Rum.  

  George joined the Royal Navy as a boy sailor in 1936 serving 33 years, leaving in 1969. During WW2 George took part in Operation Pedestal: the first relief convoy to Malta and witnessed HMS Eagle being sunk. He also served in the Atlantic and Arctic Convoys. 

  Dave Kerley, Secretary of the RNA’s Salisbury branch said: “George is the life and soul of the Salisbury RNA and it was an absolute honour to celebrate this incredible milestone with him. Wishing you a very happy birthday George!” 

  George has been a member of the RNA since the early 80s, it is the biggest collective group of Royal Naval veterans and serving personnel, with over 270 branches in the UK and overseas.
